Breaking the normal schedule of when I post to answer the messages I have been receiving since last night. Kumamoto was hit with a 6.4 earthquake last night around 9pm Japan time. Kumamoto is only about 5 or 6 hours from Iwakuni. The area where the earthquake hit received lots of damage. They have started reporting at least 9 people were killed and many were injured. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
Thankfully, here in Iwakuni, we were hit as hard. We did feel the initial earthquake and many of the aftershocks but it wasn’t strong. It felt like we were on a waterbed. The first one that happened was long enough for me to realize it was an earthquake and point it out to Jeremy before it ended. I actually thought I was dizzy at first because I had stood up from sitting on the floor to light some sage but soon realized things were swaying around me. This incident has made me realize that I need to listen to my instincts more. I haven’t lit my sage in months and yesterday afternoon I felt the need to have it going for a while yesterday afternoon and again last night right when the earthquake was about to happen.
Katniss has been super clingy today. I think this was her first real earthquake. While we haven’t felt any more earthquakes, my phone as been alerting me about once or twice an hour about another aftershock.
Thank you for thinking about us and reaching out to make sure we were safe. You don’t know how much that means us. Thank you.
