My Paranormal Bucket List

Before I jump into this post I wanted to let you that the podcast I was interviewed for is now live. I loved talking to Shelby and Bella. I hope y’all enjoy the episode and start listening to them more often if you don’t already. Weird Wacky Wonderful Stories is a great podcast with a variety of subjects that they talk about. If ask any paranormal investigator what their investigation bucket list is, and you will get a variety of answers. Mostly it depends on what they have already investigated and what sort of places they are drawn to. I have my own list that I have been trying to check off. Earlier this year I checked off my number one international bucket list place- Aokigahara Forest (aka Suicide Forest in Japan). I will write a more in-depth post on that experience at a later date.

With the recent theme of posts lately I figured I would share my current top ten investigation bucket list with y’all and why I want to investigate them.

10) Maha But Temple, Bangkok, Thailand

Maha But Temple is the burial site for Nang Nak. Nang Nak is a Thai spirit. Her husband was sent away for war while she was pregnant. While he was away, she died during childbirth. According to legend when he came back he found his wife and child waiting for him. He doesn’t realize that he is living with a ghost for a while because the ghost of Nang Nak kills anyone that tries to tell him the truth. He soon discovers the truth when he sees her stretch her arm through the floor boards. He manages to flee the house by hiding in a temple. Today Nang Nak is known as a protector of families and marriages.

I would love to go and see if I am able to make a connection with Nang Nak. Her legend has intrigued me for years. Even before I was a married woman she intrigued me. Maybe it’s me romanticizing the legend but being able to love your husband so much that even death won’t keep you apart. The irony of going to investigate the shrine she is buried at is that she is supposed to help those who want out of the military or the spouse who want their husbands out of the military. I guess I will have to wait until Jeremy is out of the Marine Corps to visit her.

9) Hever Castle, Kent, England

I would love to go investigate the childhood home of Anne Boleyn. I am obsessed the Tudors. Especially with Anne Boleyn. I have always been drawn to her history. There have been reports for years that she haunts Hever Castle. I would love to have the chance to connect with her and see what she has to say.

8) Lemp Mansion, St Louis, MO

I have heard many stories about Lemp Mansion and the spirits that supposedly stay there. I’m especially interested in the fact that one of the spirits is a child with Down syndrome. I haven’t heard of other spirits with Down syndrome before. Since we now live just a few hours from St. Louis, I hope to be checking this one off my list soon.

7) Lizzie Borden House, Fall River, MA

Most everyone knows what happened or well at least know about the murders that happen there. I have spoken to other investigators that have investigated there and they claim to have made contact with her father or even her. There are others who have encountered spirits that are unrelated to the murders. Either way, it seems like an interesting look into the history of the house.

6) Hotel del Coronado, Coronado, CA

This one I have wanted to investigate in large part thanks to my dad. He was stationed near there and visited the hotel. He had heard that it was supposedly haunted but never encountered anything paranormal there.

5) Sallie House, Atchison, KS

This is a home I have heard often being claimed to be haunted something evil. I have spoken to various different teams that either say nothing but positive things about their time at the Sallie house and I have I think that it might be a misunderstood spirit. I would love the opportunity to test my theory.

4) Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, CO

Even if you are as sheltered as my husband, chances are you have heard The Shining by Stephen King. The Stanley Hotel was the hotel that the book was based on. My mom is a huge Stephen King fan, so I ended up reading The Shining in middle school. Now I want to visit the hotel that inspired the story. Supposedly Stephen King was inspired by the paranormal events that happened to him he was able to write a thoroughly creepy story.

3) Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia

This another place that my dad and I always talked about visiting. While he was serving in Vietnam, he first heard about Angkor Wat. Since then, anytime there was a show talking about it, we would watch it. I am hoping to be able to visit this temple at some point. I actually want to take some of my dad’s ashes with me when I go because this is some place we talked so often about.

2) Villisca Axe Murder House, Villisca, IA

Two things my dad and I talked about a lot was the paranormal and true crime. The Villisca Axe Murders combine both of the topics. This is one of the cases we talked about often. I have a feeling that I will checking out this house more than once while we are stationed over in this part of the country. It’s only about 5 hours from here.

1) Waverly Hills Sanatorium, Louisville, KY

This has been number two on my bucket list for almost two decades. It became number one when I was able to check Suicide Forest off my list. Even before I watched the various ghost hunting shows that investigated here, I heard about Waverly Hills from the first paranormal team I worked with. Since learning about it, I have been seriously intrigued with it. The wide variety of evidence that has been recorded and experienced blows me away. I would love to experience what others have experienced there. It seems very active. I think it would interesting to go there with Al and see who are able to make contact with his help.
