If you have ever owned your own business, you know how much work goes into just maintaining the business. Besides this blog, I have a few businesses that I mentioned that I do because I love to stay busy and because I have a variety of interests. Just to make things even more interesting and busy, I just accepted a job offer as Manager at Claire’s at the mall here in Champaign. Claire’s was one of my happy places in Japan and now it will be here as well. Plus I have a jewelry cabinet I need to fill with beautiful jewelry. But I think the thing I’m most excited about is being able to wear my various cat ears again like I used to wear often in Japan. I get to be Japanese cute again and no one can judge me!!! I start officially next week. If you’re at the mall, swing by and say hey!
Even Jeremy has been working like crazy. Recruiters have insane hours and they work six days a week. Jeremy still feels good about recruiting and seems to be doing pretty good at it. He loves meeting with the students and grads to talk about being a Marine. I’m so proud of how far he has come since Recruiting School.
The Marine Corps Birthday ball is this weekend for RS St. Louis. We are both really excited about it. I’m going to be the photographer again this year. My mom is coming out to help me with it and then she’ll be attending the ball with us! This is her first time going to the ball. I am still trying to decide between my blue gown (which I have worn before at the ball) or the black gown that I was going to wear last year but decided to be the photographer instead. What is y’all’s vote?
Lately, even our spirits have been working hard with us. Elizabeth has been coming to work with me and Jeremy. Elizabeth came with me to Lodgic for their Grand Opening. I have a few talks lined up that she will be joining me at. Elizabeth has even been to Jeremy’s work. She spent the day recruiting with him. The Marines in his shop loved having her there. She even hopped on Instagram to help get potential recruits in. She seems to be our lucky charm when we take her out.
I do have an update on Rampu. After over a year of being with us, the light bulb he came with finally burnt out. We are having an ordeal of trying to find a light bulb to replace the burnt out one with. When Jeremy went to Walmart, the screw in part was too small. So I went back a few days later and bought a different style. Mine ended up being too big. I know what you’re thinking “why don’t you just take the bulb with you”. One, I’m a klutz so it will probably end up broken or forgotten somewhere. Two, I feel bad separating him all day from his bulb because I hit up Walmart after work. I’m going tonight to get him a new bulb, hopefully, third time is a charm. Wish me luck.
Halloween is next week! I still have no idea what Jeremy and I are dressing up as. I’m really excited to pass out candy (pssst we will be handing out full-size candy bars so swing by if you want the good stuff!). Also that day I am doing a lunch fireside talk at Lodgic about ethical ghost hunting. If you’re in the Champaign area, please come and listen to it. it will be at 12pm. I’m going to see if I can go live on Facebook for those of y’all who aren’t able to attend. There will be a meet and greet afterward the talk. I would love to meet y’all.
***UPDATE*** Since writing this piece, Jeremy finally found a light bulb that fits in Rampu’s lamp. I don’t know if he likes it though. He has let us turn him on twice but will quickly turn himself back off. Since crashing into his bookcase, he seems pretty grumpy about turning on for me but he will let Jeremy do it. I guess I need to find another style of light bulb for him. Le sigh.
