Learning Tarot

Growing up, I remember randomly finding tarot cards around our house. It wasn’t the whole deck but just a random card or two stuck in between books or in a closet. They belonged to my dad. He had a french Rider Tarot deck that he carried while he was in the military. He told me not to use them and that he stopped reading them before he got out of the military. A few weeks ago while at Beads and Botanical, I found the English version of the same deck. I decided to try learning how to read Tarot cards. I bought the deck thinking it would allow me to tap into the same spirits guides or whatever that helped my dad. Either way, it is a connection to him.

For my first reading, I decided to use the Celtic Cross Card Spread that was in the info book that came with the cards. While I shuffled the cards I kept asking how next week would be for me. The date of this reading is October 19th, 2018.

For the reading notes please note that BOLD font means I am quoting the book and ITALIC is my personal thoughts on the card. For the Significator card, I chose the Queen of Swords because the book said that Swords correspond with people who have dark brown hair (my natural hair color) and hazel eyes.

For the first card, I drew the Ace of Swords but in reverse. According to the book, Ace of Swords means triumph, the excessive degree in everything, conquest, triumph of force. A card of great force, in love as well as in hatred. Since my card was reversed the meaning is the same but the results are disastrous; another account says concepetion, childbirth, augmentation, multiplicityIt is interesting to point out that according to my period tracker app that I am due to ovulate around Halloween. Sorry if that is TMI but it’s interesting to point that out since this is talking about conception.

For the second card, I drew the Seven of Pentacles. According to the book, the Seven of Pentacles is the card of money, business, barter- but one reading gives altercation, quarrel and another innocence, ingenuity, purgation. This is supposed to be my obstacles. Next week is the Marine Corps Ball and I am going to be the photographer there. Plus with Halloween coming up a few days afterward, I have been trying to square away business stuff in regards to this blog. Perhaps it’s talking about one of those?

For the third card, I drew The Lovers but in reverse. According to the book in reverse, it means failure, foolish designs. According to the directions for the spread this card, space is suppose to represent (a) the best that he can arrive at; (b) his ideal in the matter; (c) what he wants to make his own; (d) but it is not his own at present. I have no idea what this is suppose to mean. Does this mean I am doomed to failure in my goals?

For the fourth card, I drew The Knight of Pentacles. According to the book, The Knight of Pentacles means utility, serviceableness, interest, rectitude, responsibility. This card space is supposed to show what I have to work with and useHopefully, this means that whatever I face I am able to overcome and resolve.

For the fifth card, I drew was The Fool. According to the book, The Fool means folly, mania, extravagance, intoxication, delirium, frenzy, bewrayment. This card space is suppose to represent what is behind me (after reading part of this I think I may have card 5 and 6 in the wrong spaces because I have the significator card face up and it may need to be face down. According to the information for card 5 the significator is suppose to be looking away from card 5 but in its current position, it is looking at card 5).

For the sixth card, I drew the Two of Cups. According to the book, this is the card space that is suppose to represent what is before me. After reading the notes for card 6, cards 5 and 6 should really be switched. I goofed. Oops. The Two of Cups in reverse means false love, folly, misunderstandingWell, that doesn’t look good to me… Ugh.

For the seventh card, I pulled the Four of Wands. This card space represents myself, my attitude, and relation to the matter. The Four of Wands means country life, repose, concord, harmony, prosperity, peace, and the perfect work of theseI live in a tiny, tiny town that is surrounded by cornfields. Yep, that is country life. As for the rest that sounds like me as well. I love peace and I am trying to teach people how to live in peace with spirits.

For the eighth card, I drew a Ten of Swords. This card space my house, my environment in the affair- the influence, people, and events around me. The Ten of Swords means whatsoever is intimated by design- also pain, affliction, tears, sadness, desolationUh, what? That doesn’t sound good…

For the ninth card, I drew the Knight of Wands in reverse. This space signifies my hopes and fears. The Knight of Wands in reverse means rupture, division, interruption, discordI do worry about upsetting people or people being upset with me but doesn’t everyone have this fear?

For the tenth card, I drew the Three of Wands in reverse. This space represents what will come. The Three of Wands means the end of troubles, suspension or the end of adversity, disappointment, and toil. What I gather from this card is that no matter what is thrown at me, I’ll overcome it all. I hope that is true. I will have faith that it is true.

While I was shuffling I had two cards fall out of my hand. I know from previous readings I have had that if cards fall out there is a meaning to them. I wasn’t sure where to place them in the spread so I just pulled them out to the side. The first card that fell out was The Chariot. The Chariot means succor, providence, also war, triumph, presumption, vengeance, and trouble. The next card that fell out was Temperance. Temperance means economy, moderation, frugality, management, accommodation. I am interested in what these cards have to do with me. I know that Jeremy and I have been trying to manage our money better but I don’t know if the answer is as straightforward as that. I don’t know what the Chariot could be hinting at. I guess only time will tell.
