From the time I woke up this morning, I knew something was off. My phone was just about dead because even though I plugged in the cord, the cord came unplugged from the wall. Then when I went to go shower, I noticed my conditioner had leaked all over everything in the shower rack. I thought it was just a couple of little hiccups and was ready to move on. So I continued to get ready for the day. I felt the urge to do my makeup and put on a cute skirt. Feeling cute, I headed out the door. I made a total of two feet from my stairs before sliding head first across my front yard in the snow. I stood up and realized that not only was I now covered in mud but 3 out of 4 neighbors just witnessed me falling. I stomped back inside fully knowing something was wrong. I’m rarely this unlucky. While changing clothes, the date suddenly dawned on me. Mercury Retrograde had just started. Great…
For those of y’all who don’t know what Mercury Retrograde is, let me explain what this frustrating time is. A couple of times a year for 3.5 weeks at a time, Mercury will appear to go backwards in the sky. It’s not really going backwards. That’s just an illusion as it hurries past Earth. During those 3.5 weeks, it feels like anything that can go wrong will go wrong. Electronics will suddenly break, miscommunications happen easily, and agreements fall through. It seems like while Mercury Retrograde is going on Murphy’s Law is the law of the land. During a retrograde, you shouldn’t buy new electronics, enter into any new agreements, travel, move, start a new job, or basically anything.
I hate Mercury Retrogrades with a passion. Mean ol’ Mercury really seems to have it out for me when he goes into retrograde. My car usually likes to break down during a retrograde. Any time I have gotten a ticket while driving, its been during a retrograde. Our household good shipments were delayed during the last retrograde. The two times I’ve had to deal with cancer scares, it was first brought up during retrogrades. Little hiccups also happen at a higher frequency during retrogrades.
While I wish I could hide under my covers for the next 3.5 weeks, I know I can’t. I have to be an adult. I need to get up every morning and either work or take care of the house. But to be on the safe side, I will be wearing my Tigers Eye necklace whenever I am out of bed. I am counting down the days until December 7th when this will be retrograde will be over with. I guess I won’t start my Christmas shopping until then just to be on the safe side. Thankfully all the events I want to attend to aren’t until December 7th or later. Then it will be smooth sailing until March 5th, 2019. The next Mercury Retrograde actually ends on mine and Jeremy’s anniversary. Happy anniversary to us?
Do any of y’all seem affected by Mercury Retrograde? What do you do to protect yourself during this challenging few weeks? Or is it life as normal for you? Let me know in the comments how Mercury Retrograde is treating you.
