Everyday Magic: How To Use The Full Moon’s Energy

Even before I embraced my witchy side, I had been trying to work on being more aware of the moon phases and their meanings. There will be a full moon on Wednesday. You don’t have to be a witch to know that a full moon seems to heighten energy around us. Many people claim that when the moon is full, Emergency Rooms seem busier, police and firefighters tend to receive more calls, pregnant women seem more likely to go into labor, and people seem to be crazier.

You don’t need to be a witch to harness the energy that the full moon gives. Full moons are a time for things coming to completion. It’s the perfect time to wrap up projects you have been slacking on or checking off the final items on your to-do list. It’s also the best time to cleanse your home, whether it is cleaning it as usual or going through cleansing the space with crystals, herbs, or charged waters. Before cleansing for a full moon, I’ve also been told that it’s a good idea to rearrange the furniture in your house to let the full moon’s energy flow more through your home in new ways.

You can also use the energy of the full moon for your personal use. Full moons are also a great time to let go of the negativity in your life. If you are holding on to any emotional baggage or dealing with toxic people in your life, a full moon is a great time to let go of those things dragging you from the good things you want or need in your life. Some people take baths on the night of a full moon with crystals, herbs, and candles that help charge the bath with their intentions. Others like to meditate or dance in the moonlight to help bring positivity into their life.

Something I have started doing during full moons is charging my crystals and bottles of water. After the sun goes down, I put out the crystals I use most often either out on our porch, patio table, or on the windowsills in my office and bedroom to be charged by the moonlight. I don’t do this with all my crystals because I have so many put in high places that are to reach, but I do make sure to charge the ones on my alters, the ones I carry most often, and the ones that have specific jobs (so to speak) around the house. Most recently, I have started charging moon water during the full moon. Just like the crystals, I set bottles of water outside on the porch or the patio table. I like using moon water to water my special plants (like the succulents on our family altar), charging our mop water to cleanse the negativity out of the house while physically cleaning, and adding it to the water I use to make tea or coffee when I am going through a stressful time. The bottles don’t have to be anything special if you don’t want to spend a lot of money to do this. I have seen people use mason jars or jelly jars to charge water. I found pretty, clear glass bottles with cork stoppers at the dollar tree to use for my water. You can charge crystals and water at any phase of the moon since each phase has a different energy. The only downside to charging crystals and water during full moons is having to remember to wake in time to bring them in before the sun rises.

With a full moon, though, you do need to be careful of the heightened energy. This energy can make emotions feel more prominent than usual. You might find yourself or others quicker to their temper or become overemotional. People seem more prone to rash decisions during a full moon than other times of the month. Don’t give in to these urges. Channel that energy into something useful, such as dancing it out or cleaning/ cleansing your house.

Hopefully, you can use the upcoming full moon’s energy to bring some positivity into your life. Between COVID, all the social injustice events, and everything going on, I figured we needed a reminder of ways we can help bring a little light and positivity into our lives. Plus, I know there are people like me that, despite having the moon phases written down on calendars, planners, etc., we still forget to set out our crystals and water before bed. I’m hoping I remember tomorrow night. I’ve been a bit scatterbrain lately. If you do anything for the full moon, let me know. I would love to see what y’all do to embrace the moon’s energy.
