What To Look For When Hiring A Paranormal Team

When you are dealing with a possible haunted house or business, it can be overwhelming trying to find a paranormal team. Just like any other service you would hire to come into your home or business, you need to know how to vet a paranormal team to know they have yours and your family’s or your business’ best interest at heart. These are some tips and things to look out for when hiring a paranormal team.

1) WHAT IS THEIR SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE LIKE?

In this day and age, social media can give us a great glimpse into someone’s life or business. I recommend to the paranormal teams that I have trained to use their social media like a living resume. Future clients will see how the team handles investigations, deal with fans or haters, and if they involve religion or politics into their social media image. When looking at a paranormal team’s social media, be sure to see how they conduct themselves during their investigations. Usually teams will go live or post videos of their investigations. Look to see if they are provoking, cursing, or just acting up the whole time. Most likely how they are on social media is how they will treat your spirits and home or business. If you are comfortable with how they conduct themselves, then consider them as a possible team to hire.

2) GHOST HUNTER VS. PARANORMAL INVESTIGATOR

I know these terms get tossed out around often and most people use them interchangeably but there is actually a difference. A ghost hunter is just going out looking for a thrill or a response. A paranormal investigator is trying to figure out what is going on and how to remedy the situation. A paranormal investigator will be more likely to try to debunk stuff first, research into the history of the location or the people involved to find connections to evidence, and will help find solutions to help you either live with the entity or to help you cleanse the property if that is your wish. When involving your home or business, I recommend looking for teams that represent themselves as paranormal investigators and not ghost hunters. Ghost hunters may leave you with more of a mess or unanswered questions than a paranormal investigator.

3) DO THEY HAVE A CONTRACT?

Just like with any service you hire, you need to know what’s being provided, how you’ll be protected, and what happens when the investigation is over. A contract is the best way to provide all of that information. The contact should lay out who is coming over for the investigation (including listing who is in charge of the team), when the investigation will be, where the team is allowed to investigate or not allowed to investigate, what will happen to the evidence gathered, when to expect to receive evidence, if something happens during the investigation who will bare the responsibility, and who to contact if there are any issues or questions. When a team comes over to investigate, you do not have to give them full run of your house or business. You are allowed to say certain rooms are off limits for any reason and the team should respect that. If something breaks, someone becomes injured, or something goes missing during the investigation you need to know who will be responsible. Which brings us to our next point…

4) DO THEY HAVE INSURANCE?

A good, authentic group will have insurance to protect them, their equipment, and whatever location they are investigation. It is a similar insurance coverage that professional photographers have. It isn’t expensive and is easy to get through most major insurance companies.

5) WHAT HAPPENS TO THE EVIDENCE?

The contract mentioned earlier should spell out what happens to the evidence they gather. It should also explain when and how they review the evidence with you. A good team will go over all of the evidence with you and explain what it is. The contract should also say what they expect to do with the evidence. Will they put it on their social media or website? Will it be shared with others? They should allow you to approve which pieces of evidence may be shared with people outside of the paranormal team.

I know there is a lot more that goes into hiring a paranormal team but I wanted to talk briefly about the main things that people often overlook when trying to find a paranormal team to come investigate. Have you hired a paranormal team? What do you wish you knew then about hiring a paranormal team that you know now? What are some questions you have had in regards to hiring a paranormal team?
