Bye Bye Fat Girl

I have always been plus size. Before I blamed it on my schedule (no time to cook healthy or work out). I blamed it on it being too expensive to buy healthy stuff all the time. Then I blamed it on Hashimoto’s. Yes I have put on weight because of the Hashimoto’s but I need to be honest with myself and admit that I am a bigger part of the problem than the disease.

I am finally doing something about my weight. I am tired about being overweight. I had lost some weight since coming to Japan but now my weight is ballooning up again. I need to get healthy. With Jeremy leaving tomorrow I am taking the month he is gone to change my eating habits, clear the crap out of kitchen, and start exercising more. I figure if I can get into a new habit while he is gone I won’t fall into old ones when he comes back. I am making a post about this to make myself accountable for these changes. Too many times I say I am going to do something about my health and then fall of the wagon before the week is over. Maybe if I blog about it, I will stick to it longer.

I have been debating on trying a diet plan from slim fast, beach body, or something like that. I have been looking a lot at beach body. I like that it has the portion control containers to help train me in proper portions. I am just not a fan of the shakeology. One it is expensive. It’s $100 a bag. Ouch. Two it needs mixing. I have heard people mixing it with just water but it supposedly doesn’t taste that great that way. I know I am not going to want to drag out a blender to blend milk and fruits with it. I know me. I am lazy. I have been debating on doing beach body for the portion control but substituting slim fast shakes for the shakeology. Yes I know they aren’t the same but it is better than me going and pigging out on a bunch of crap, right? Is there a healthier, remade shake that I can use instead slim fast?

I will start walking and running more to get exercise. It is finally starting to cool down in the evenings so I can go walking after dinner and not feel like I am dying from the heat. I am also going to learn how to run. I have the Personal Running Trainer app on my phone. It will help me with interval training. By the time Jeremy comes home I should be able to run a mile. That is my goal. Plus on the days that I am doing delivery runs for the Rib House, I am going to walk to work. Its about a mile away from the apartment. Plus I will be on my feet while at work instead of sitting at the computer all day.

I’m also going to go buy some dumbbells. I miss lifting when I use to go to the gym with Jessica. I am going to work back to wear I was with her. With dumbbells I can work out at home instead of going to the gym. I hate the gym here on base. There are some very judgmental people that work out there and they like to post stuff on anonymous pages about the heavier people working out there. I’m not ready to be seen on those pages. So I will work out at home until I feel like I am comfortable working out at the gym.

Hopefully I can lose some of this weight before I fly home. I have two months. I am currently 323 pounds. Ugh. Maybe if I push myself I can be under 300 pounds by the time I fly out. I have nine weeks until my flight. Wish me luck.

  1. Wow, way to go Kells Bells! Just reaching out like this is huge and it’ll happen for you! Thank you for checking out my blog at and I feel like I have been writing with somebody just like you in mind so there is daily stuff to keep you on this path and accountable. You got this, kiddo!

  2. Kelly, you are SO brave to post about your wellness journey!! Thank you for visiting my blog at – I have had personal success with Beachbody (the fitness programs are LEGIT), so please reach out if you would like more info 🙂 and whatever you do, don’t give up on yourself ; you are WORTH the effort you put in, I promise <3

    1. Thank you, Stephanie. I am definitely looking more in beach body because I like the portion control containers. It will help me figure out what I am supposed to be doing and a great visual to show my husband what we should be eating daily. I haven’t looked too much into the workout videos but I will be doing that this weekend. The more I research beach body the more I realize that a lot of people I know use it and have had results.

  3. Hi Kelly, let me know if you want to correspond over emails? I am also starting a steady weight-loss regime that includes light to moderate exercise. I am a little scared to blog about my progress in case I stop the weight-loss but it would be nice to stay focused by have a “fitness partner”.

  4. I one point I was 30 pounds overweight and hated myself for it, I love your heart for making a change. I recently wrote this post on an ideal workout design. It’s been super helpful for me. Check it out.

You’ve got the accountability part down, that’s for sure. Looking forward to learning of the weight loss changes!!

  5. Hey girl! I am on this journey with you, I chose beachbody for the same reasons. It pretty much tricked me into eating better. lol. I LOVE the community I’m in. It’s so supportive and body positive. They focus on more than that number on the scale. This may just be the group I’m in “inspire joy” but it has really helped me. I can pass on her info if you’d like to hear more. I’d love to be an accountability partner with you. I’m from TX and Lord knows I need all the help I can get!

  6. You are beautiful girl! Love that outfit too 👍🏻
Isn’t it just so ridiculous how people make fun and comment about heavy people but then a heavy person goes to work out and do something about…and they STILL ridicule them and make fun of them to the point they feel uncomfortable working out. Catch 22. People can be so rude and ignorant 🙄

    1. Thank you! The whole outfit is LuLaRoe. I am addicted to their clothing especially their leggings.

I am trying to work up the nerve to go work out at the gym. I am starting to make friends with people that work out at the gym so I maybe I can have trust worthy people to work out with.
