Restless In The Afterlife

As mentioned on Sunday, this week’s posts are about haunted places Massachusetts! Today’s post is about two cemeteries I hope I get to visit while Reba and I are in Salem and Boston. I’ll let you know next month if I am successful.

Exploring Springdale Cemetery

While researching the previous post, I was introduced to Springdale Cemetery. Springdale Cemetery is a very large, very old cemetery about 20 minutes from where we are staying. Jeremy went with John Paul and I to check out it while we were looking for Dr. George Zeller’s grave for the previous post on this blog and we were not ready for this cemetery at all. Even with directions to the gravesite, it took us over 10 minutes to drive to where he was buried.

Kindness Is The Best Medicine

So far the week that I have spent in Peoria, I really love it here. There has been a lot to see and do. I have been keeping busy with checking out everything. One of the places I was most excited to check out was the Peoria State Hospital and not just because of the paranormal aspect.

Are We There Yet?

Well… Greetings from Illinois. Yeah. We are back in Illinois. You are probably just as shock as we were when we found out we had to head back here. To be honest, I am still trying to process my emotions and feelings about this change of events, but I am trying to find the silver lining.

Beware What Stalks The Woods…

It seems like everywhere I turn lately (especially places like TikTok and Facebook), someone is talking about Wendigo or Skinwalkers. While similar and often confused to be the same thing, they are actually two different Native American folklore. I will devote a post diving into what a Skinwalker for a later date. Today’s post is all about Wendigoes and their lore. Mainly because Jeremy and I may have encountered one a few weeks ago.

Life Has Been Crazy…

It’s crazy how life works sometimes. So much has happened since my last post. I know it’s been a while since my last post. I took a break for a couple of reasons that I had mentioned in that post. The initial reason was so I could heal from my surgery. After that, I needed to focus on our move to San Diego.

Becoming A Butterfly

I have sat down so many times to start this post, and I either have too many thoughts in my head to write coherently, or something pulls me away from my computer. I feel like I am being pulled in so many directions at once, just trying to get everything done. I'm trying to get things done, but lately, it seems like no matter what I get done, my to-do list is getting longer and longer.

Exploring Chicago With Jay

On my last post, I mentioned that Jay and I went to Chicago for the weekend. Originally we were supposed to go Wisconsin for Ghost Con, but that was canceled due to Covid and political unrest. Since Jay had a long weekend off, we took off to Chicago.

We Are Alive. I Promise!

Octobers usually are my busy season because that is typically when everyone seems to be more focused on the paranormal, thanks to Halloween, but I was not expecting to be this busy, and it wasn't even the paranormal that made things crazy. It was just life in general. I didn't even realize that Halloween is in eight days (well, five days when this post goes live) until I saw something about Halloween on Facebook. This is honestly the first chance all month I have been able to sit down to my laptop to write. It feels so good to be back at my desk.

Finding Quiet Among The Craziness

Today was absolutely gorgeous, and I was having a craptastic day where everything I tried to get done ended up being ten times harder than it should have been. I was frustrated and grumpy and just needed a break. I picked up some Panera and drove around to try to find a park to eat at. Unfornutaly, every single park I went to was quite crowded, and even if I wasn't worried about COVID, none were quiet enough to let me relax.

Investigation At Our House (featuring Ghostnet Paranormal)

As you know, last week I was on vacation with my family. Before I left for vacation, though, we had Ghostnet Paranormal come out to our house for an investigation. While I have shared the ghostly going ons in our home with y'all for the two years or so, I felt that it would be best to have someone come out to verify our claims, so you know that what we share is legit.

These Movies Are Haunted By Their Curses

Have you ever done something and later regret it? Yeah... I am never doing cursed movies as a theme ever again. Last week I worked really hard to write all the posts for this week, schedule social media posts, and started writing next week's posts because I will be on vacation. You may have noticed that there was no post on Wednesday. I had a post scheduled, but it has disappeared from WordPress. I had this post planned for today, but the Poltergiest part disappeared. All the social media planned on Plannerly disappeared. And all the posts for next week I had started writing on Grammarly, and the pictures I had saved for the posts are also gone. One site I could understand. Two makes me think it may have been user error. Three or more just tells me I pissed something off... So if my site crashes this weekend, you know why. I will never cover this topic again. I am posting this because I don't have time to research another topic while redoing everything for next week.

The Devil Was At Work And He Didn’t Want That Film Made

The two movies being discussed in today's post seem to have an extra executive producer that isn't mentioned in the credits. Both of these movies have been rumored to have had either the Devil himself or one of his demons involved in the film production. The amount of things that went wrong with both movies is part of the proof that people point to when making these claims.

Meeting A Paranormal Celebrity

While I was checking out, I saw a book by the register. It was one of those local books about the area's ghosts that most gift shops have. What caught me off guard was that I recognized the face on the cover of the book. It was someone I grew up hearing about from my dad and shows like Unsolved Mysteries. It was Robert the doll.

Making Some Spooky Plans

Things are getting exciting around here despite COVID trying to ruin things. I hope that y'all aren't being affected by COVID and that life is starting to return somewhat to normal. Here in central Illinois, somethings are returning to a vague sense of normal and other things are going backwards. Places downtown are going back to outdoor seating only, and more businesses are enforcing the mask rules (which I appreciate).

Everyday Magic: Our Family Altar

Since embracing the witchy side of me, not much has changed. A lot of what I did was already a bit witchy: carrying crystals for their various meanings, burning sage to cleanse my home, reading tarot cards, researching what my dreams might be trying to me, and using different herbs for different reasons.

Someone Else’s History

A few weeks ago, while checking our post office box, I noticed a flier stating there would be an estate sale in the next town over. It caught my eye because it had postcards listed items for sale. I love to collect old letters and old postcards. So Jeremy and I made plans to go check it out.

Best Laid Plans…

When I started planning to relaunch this blog three months ago, I had so many hopes. Not just for this blog but also for everything in general. I had hope COVID wise, we would be more back to the normal we use to have than we currently are.

A Haunted Exchange

The Exchange Hotel in Gordonsville, Virginia is a beautiful older hotel. While it’s been eight years since I have visited this location, I doubt it has changed much. When I visited it, it still looked like it was set up for service in 1860’s.

Home Before Dark: Book Review

Every year I make the New Year’s resolution to read more and for the last few years I have set my reading goal to 50 books a year. The closest I cam to reach my goal was in 2018 when I read 30 books. This year is looking pretty good because I have already finished 33 books.

Splashes From The Past

Why do so many campgrounds seem to be the locations of murders? Is it because no one can hear the victim scream for help? The two campgrounds that I am writing about today have spirits who are still looking for help and reliving their murders.

Memories Of Another Time

While I was in middle school, I was lucky enough to become friends with a girl in band class by the name of Heather. We both played flute in Ms. Hoell class. Not only were we friends, but our parents became great friends.

A Year In Review

As I mentioned in a previous post, our little family has been pretty busy this past year. I figured I would take a moment to go over some of the stuff we have been up to.

The Amityville Horror: Book Review

Back at the beginning of this year, I found a copy of The Amityville Horror at our local library. Like most people, I knew the story of what supposedly happened at the house in Amityville, New York named High Hopes.

Our House Is Blossoming Into A Home

We have been putting the house together. With Jeremy’s help, we swapped to the two main rooms downstairs. What used to be the front room, is now the living room. What was the living room, is now the dining room. I am still setting up both rooms but the house is starting to look more like an actual home.

Mental Health In The Paranormal World

Personally, though, I do have to make sure that my mental health is okay while I deal with the paranormal world. There have been times where I doubted what I was experiencing was paranormal or something in my head.

But What About The Children?

Just like any married couple, Jeremy and I are often asked: “when are you going to have children?”. No matter what we answer the follow-up question is “are you going to include your kids in your paranormal stuff?”. Well, that is a loaded question.

Birthday Adventures And Surprises

If you have subscribed to my YouTube channel, you know that my birthday is coming up this week. Jeremy and I decided to celebrate it early because not only would he not be here for my actual birthday (stupid recruiting duty training in St. Louis) but also because he got an extremely rare 72 reward for his hard work last month.

Just Another Odd Week

You would think with Mercury Retrograde being over with for a week now that things would go back to normal but that has yet to be the case. I am going out today to get some sage to cleanse myself, Jeremy, and the house. I am tired of negativity going on in our lives and everything going sideways.

What The Effingham Was That…?

When Jeremy and I first moved to Champaign, people told us to watch out for Effingham. We assumed it was for the speed traps on the interstate by the rest area or all the construction. Nope, that was just part of what we should have been warned about.

A Spirited Christmas

The week leading up to Christmas has been a crazy, busy, fun week. The day after Mom drove up from North Carolina, we drove down to Springfield, Illinois to explore new areas with Avery and her kids.

Happiness & Holiday Cheer With Loved Ones

This past week has been a busy one. Thankfully Jeremy had Thanksgiving Day off. I had hired a local woman, Penny, to cater our Thanksgiving meal because I didn’t want to deal with cooking and cleaning on what I thought would be his only day off that week. We all enjoyed the food. Even Valar Morghulis got his own plate of yummy food.

Sleeping! Please Do Not Disturb!

When we sleep we are the most vulnerable. Not just to normal things like attacks from adorable kittens or children but also from spirits. I often get messages about how people have connected with spirits of loved ones or with spirits in their home through dreaming.

I’m Not Ready For You!!!

From the time I woke up this morning, I knew something was off. My phone was just about dead because even though I plugged in the cord, the cord came unplugged from the wall. Then when I went to go shower, I noticed my conditioner had leaked all over everything in the shower rack. I thought it was just a couple of little hiccups and was ready to move on.

The House Feels A Little Crowded Lately

Over the past couple of weeks, the activity at our house has been picking up. I don’t know if it was because it was getting closer to Halloween, the spirits were feeding off my stress levels leading up to the Marine Corps Ball, or maybe the spirit(s) in the house are feeling more comfortable with us. Whatever it is, things have definitely been interesting.

Was It All Just A Dream?

She said that she dreamt that she was sitting at an old soda parlor’s counter. She was drinking a milkshake when the door opened. When she looked at the door all she could see was a bright light. From the light, her mother, who had passed away several years ago, walked into the shop. Her mother sat beside her and put a hand on her shoulder and said: “the kids are alright”.

Learning Tarot

Growing up, I remember randomly finding tarot cards around our house. It wasn’t the whole deck but just a random card or two stuck in between books or in a closet. They belonged to my dad. He had a french Rider Tarot deck that he carried while he was in the military. He told me not to use them and that he stopped reading them before he got out of the military.

Just Like The Living, The Dead Will Go To Work

Lately, even our spirits have been working hard with us. Elizabeth has been coming to work with me and Jeremy. Elizabeth came with me to Lodgic for their Grand Opening. I have a few talks lined up that she will be joining me at. Elizabeth has even been to Jeremy’s work. She spent the day recruiting with him. The Marines in his shop loved having her there. She even hopped on Instagram to help get potential recruits in. She seems to be our lucky charm when we take her out.

The Devil’s Tramping Ground

Growing up in North Carolina, I heard about a lot of different legends and ghost stories. One of the more notorious that was localish to Chapel Hill was the Devil’s Tramping Ground in Chatham County. The Devil’s Tramping Ground is just a barren area in the middle of the forest south Siler City. It’s a short walk from Devil’s Tromping Grounds Rd so this is an easy place to go check out.

Brown Mountian Lights

While I was in North Carolina visiting my family, my mom and I decided to go check out the Brown Mountian Lights. I had heard of the phenomenon often growing up as it was a semi-local legend known in North Carolina. Even though it was a few hours drive from where I grew up, I never ventured up there to experience the phenomenon.

When The Housewife Is Away The Ghost Will Play

This is the longest I have been away from Jeremy by choice (as oppose to the military sending him away) and definitely the longest I have been away from the cats and our spirits. I missed them. And judging by the messages and pictures I received while gone, it’s safe to say they all missed me too.

Spending The Night In Aokigahara

Ask most paranormal investigators what’s on their paranormal bucket list and you’ll probably hear them answer “Japan’s Suicide Forest”. It has been on mine ever since I first heard about it on Destination Truth ten years ago. Ever since that episode I felt drawn to it. So when my husband came home from work one day in January, while we still lived in Iwakuni, saying that Papaya and Ortiz (two marines in his shop) said that they wanted to go camping in Suicide Forest in a few weeks, I immediately invited us along on their trip.

Falling Down The Rabbit Hole (The Epperson Murder Part One)

Intrigued, I read through the book trying to figure out what the note was in regards to. Imagine my surprise that there was absolutely no mention of the murder in the book, the victim, or anything really. Stumped I tried googling it but all I could find was a picture of the headstone which was the information written on the note. No matter how I did the search, I couldn’t find out anything about the murder.

Meet Elizabeth: Our Haunted Doll

A lot of people have sent me questions about supposedly haunted objects or dolls being sold on eBay and other similar platforms. Since I hadn’t dealt with anything like that personally, Jeremy and I decided to try it out.

The Grey Man Of Hatteras and Pawley’s Island

With the storm about to hit the North Carolina/ South Carolina coastline, I figured it would be the appropriate time to share with you a ghost legend that has been a favorite of mine since childhood. I remember first hearing about it from my dad and then it would pop up in various ghost tale books or ghost programming. I love local legends and I consider this one local because I usually venture down to the coast of North Carolina or South Carolina a few times a year.

Feeling Like I’m Back In Japan

As much as I love Champaign, I have been a little homesick for Japan lately. I know I’m not the only one. Jeremy is missing the food and Katniss is missing the festivals. Thankfully the campus was having a great little festival at the Japan House on base. Jeremy and I decided to take Katniss to it.

Little Updates Happening

Things have been busy in the Stillwagon household. Our furniture shipment should finally arrive next week. Well… part of it at least. Crates 1 through 4 and crate 7 have arrived. Hoping crates 5 and 6 decided to show up in time to be delivered the same day. Then a few days after that I am heading to North Carolina!

Cats, Chats, and Toilet Ghosts

When I talk to people about what it’s like living with spirits, one thing that is often brought up is how animals seem to interact with spirits. I have heard a lot of people say that animals always seem to be more preceptive to spirits but honestly, I have witnessed animals are about as sensitive as humans. Some will acknowledge activity that is going on and some just seem oblivious to what is going on.

My Life Is Crazy, Spooky, Fun.

If you have been following my social media, you already know that Rampu has been pretty active this weekend. I even managed to catch him turning on on video! Normally he is camera shy and won’t turn on or off until shortly after I lower my phone or camera. Friday morning Rampu woke me up by flashing on and off quite a bit around 5am.

My Paranormal Bucket List

If you ask any paranormal investigator what their investigation bucket list is, and you will get a variety of answers. Mostly it depends on what they have already investigated and what sort of places they are drawn to. I have my own list that I have been trying to check off.

Investigation: Whaley House

Jeremy recently went on one while he was in San Diego for recruiting school. Sadly, I wasn’t there to go with him. This is definitely on my list of places I want to investigate bucket list. The Whaley House is someplace my dad and I talked about going to visit sometime. The history of the house intrigued my dad. Hopefully, I will get a chance to visit the Whaley House soon.

Fun Investigations Versus Private Investigations

One question I seem to be asked a lot since I have started being more open about being a paranormal investigator is if I only do private investigations or if I do “fun” investigations. Yes, I do both. Just because I help families and spirits, doesn’t mean I don’t love to do more relaxed investigations too.

Now Back To Our Regularly Scheduled Content!

We are still setting up our house. We finally got a few more pieces of furniture for the house but it’s still 85% empty. A few more weeks and our main shipment should be here. We received our express shipment (which is half of kitchen stuff) last week. I have no idea where we are going to put everything. We have a lot less kitchen storage areas as we did in Iwakuni. We will make it work somehow though. We always do.

Settling In To Our New Home

Greetings from Illinois! We are officially living in our house. Well, trying to. LOL So far, we only have a bed for furniture. It will be a long six weeks waiting for our stuff to come in. I can’t wait to make this place a home. We spent the first week here at a hotel. It was nice, and I miss the breakfast options.

Why We Choose To Live With Spirits (And How)

One question Jeremy and I receive the most often is “Why do you choose to live with ghosts?”. I know that seems odd especially considering how all the shows seem to show ghosts and spirits either terrifying the residents or being a nuisance to the residents or the people working in the business.

Preparing The Spirits For Our Move

Of course, though, when I show pictures of the house that we are moving into, my friends come through with responses like “How do you always find houses that look haunted?” or “I hope it’s haunted,”. I didn’t ask if it was haunted. Even if it isn’t haunted, we are bringing Al and Rampu. Plus, I hope my dad comes to visit occasionally.

Scaring Up A Cup Of Joe In Hiroshima

While Jeremy is finishing up at recruiting school, I’ve been trying squeeze in as much of Japan as possible. Today, to help inspire my writing, I visited a bar/ café that I had heard of briefly in an article. It is called Bateren Horror Kissaten and it’s located on the far side of Hiroshima. I knew it would be creepy because of the name but I definitely surprised at how creepy this place would end up being.

Finding Love With A Little Help From The Other Side

Everyone seems to have cute stories of how they met the person they’re with. The way Jeremy and I met is definitely unique. We met over five years ago. When we met, neither of us were looking for a relationship. We were both dealing with awful breakups. We started talking on a social media page and at first had no intentions of ever meeting each other. I don’t know how but we got on to the topic of ghosts and ghost hunting.

Meet Our Ghosts: My Dad

When Dad was alive he spoke often to us about how he and his brother always said that if they could come back after they died, they would come back, and they would let their families know they were there. Dad had told us that would need to watch for signs that he was visiting.

Meet Our Ghosts: Rampu

One of the great things about living in Japan is finding random little thrift shops. Jeremy and I love exploring thrift stores trying to find hidden jewels. One of our favorite shops in Iwakuni is called Dragonfly. Last summer while walking around the back part of Dragonfly, Jeremy found this old lamp. It was an older touch lamp. He really wanted it because his grandmother had a very similar lamp and it reminded him of her.

Meet Our Ghosts: Al (Part Two)

In my previous post I introduced you to Al… well, George as he was originally known by. As I had mentioned, it took a few years before I learned who he really was. This post is about how I learned about him.

Meet Our Ghosts: Al (Part One)

Al is the spirt that has been with me the longest. Actually, when I first knew he was around me, my roommate Nellie and I called him George. It would be a few years before we found out what his real name was. At the time though George seemed to fit him.

Growing As A Paranormal Investigator

I grew up thinking everyone else had similar experiences as me, but I quickly learned that my classmates didn’t. I won’t say I was bullied because of my experiences but I wasn’t usually taken seriously. This was before Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures were popular. I wanted to share my experiences with my peers, but I wasn’t sure how to do it.

Who Is The Paranormal Housewife?

As normal as my life may seem, it usually isn’t long before something paranormal pops up whether it is dealing with actual spirits or someone asking questions about ghost hunting. It really doesn’t take long for it to come up in conversation.
