National Novel Writing Month

As if I don’t have enough on my plate in November I have added one more thing to my plate. I know I have mentioned it more than once but I have always wanted to write a book. In high school I use to write short stories. I even had a teacher sponsor me for a writing camp my freshman summer because she liked my writing so much. I don’t know why I stopped writing but I did.

I have barely written since high school. I keep coming up with excuses- I don’t have time, I don’t know what to write about, no one will want to read it, blah blah blah. Well, I am not letting the excuses win. I am making sure I write this month. To help keep me motivated I have joined a new writing group here on base and I signed up to NaNoWrMo (National Novel Writing Month). I have a goal to write 15,000 words in the month of November on my story. I hope I haven’t set the goal too high because I know the last half of November I will be busy with the Birthday balls, Thanksgiving, and possibly traveling a little. Like I said earlier, I have a very full plate in November.

I don’t want to give away too much of the story I am writing about but its one that I started in middle school. The story stayed with me over the years and I think its time to commit it to paper. Whenever I think of writing, it’s the first thing to come to mind. I see flashes of scenes playing out or hear dialogue from the characters. I know most of the story by heart. It’s the details and the timeline I need to figure out. Hopefully as I write, it will flow out easily. Right now I feel like it will end up being a young adult story. I feel like that it will appeal to them more than adults.

The story I’m working on is sort of The Prince and The Pauper story with a twist. Okay, so this simple generic synopsis that sounds like a 1000 other young adult books but if I go into detail this will probably end up being a 2,000 word post before I am done. Just trust me, I have a plan for this story. I just have to figure out how to get the story out of my head and on to paper.
I know that by the time this post publishes, we will be a week into November. I try to write blog posts a week or two in advance if I can so I don’t have gaps for y’all. So that means what I am writing in real time, is usually a little out dated by the time it posts. Maybe when things calm down I can write more real time but for right now this method is what works for me. I hope y’all understand.

Is anyone else doing the NaNoWrMo? If so, add me as a buddy so we can cheer each other on to our goals! My screen name is stillkelz. Happy writing y’all!

    1. Thank you! I would love to read some of writing sometime. I’m doing good and on schedule to meet my word goal. I’m not going to be able to do the 50,000 goal they set for November but I should be able to meet my goal. I love writing!
