The Christmas festivities are starting to wind down. Mom headed back to North Carolina yesterday. She had been here for a week. I'm really happy she was able to come up for Christmas. I've missed spending the holidays with her. The week leading up to Christmas has been a crazy, busy, fun week. The day after Mom drove up from North Carolina, we drove down to Springfield, Illinois to explore new areas with Avery and her kids. We first went to a great little restaurant called Anchors Away. We chose this restaurant because we heard that it was haunted. Thankfully our waiter, Brock, was able to confirm this quickly for us.
Since coming to Japan, one of the things that every wife seems to collect Starbucks mugs. I held out for about a year before I decided to start collecting them too. I bought a Hiroshima coffee mug shortly after I came back in November. Then in February Starbucks released their Sakura line of mugs. As usual, they sold out everywhere in about 48 hours. Luckily my neighbor, Dacia, was in Tokyo where they sell out a bit slower and was able to grab me one. It is a really pretty metallic hot pink travel mug. Two weeks after Starbucks released these mugs, they released the Purity line of Sakura mugs. Dacia and I decided to drive to Hiroshima the day they released to go pick up some new mugs.
While Mom was here, the three of us went on our biggest trip yet. We decided to go check out Osaka and Kyoto. Osaka has a huge aquarium with whale sharks and Kyoto has been as much of a dream for Mom to visit as it was mine. We used ITT to plan the trip and to make all the travel arrangements. They really made it easy to plan such a trip.
If any of y'all know me in real life, one of my favorite shows is Teen Mom. I feel like I have seen these women and their children grow up over the years. Of course when you watch all the shows and follow their social media, its easy to think that you know them and you know what their stories are. If you keep up with any of the Teen Moms, you've probably heard of Kailyn's drama in her marriage. Up until this season, I sided with her. How could you not? She worked herself up from nothing, is about to graduate college and she is a fellow milso (military significant other) since Javi is in the air force. With the news of her divorce and possibly cheating on Javi, I wanted to know more about her story. On social media Kailyn says that we don't know her story and that we only see what MTV wants us to see. Well, what better way to see her side of the story than to read her book?
One of the things I miss most about being in the States is the big holiday celebrations with friends and families. On Thanksgiving we always went to one of my aunts' houses in High Point or Mebane to celebrate with my mom's family. We were home the previous year for it because of Dad's funeral but last year was the first time that we would be celebrating Thanksgiving on our own. Since I was coming in so late the day before Thanksgiving, Jeremy and I decided that for Thanksgiving we would order a meal from JD's (a restaurant here on base). It had a turkey, some sides, and pie already cooked and ready to go. It was nice to sleep in and not have to worry about cooking a lot of food.
Long before I met Jeremy and while I still lived in Chapel Hill, I was apart of a really cool group. It was a horror movie meet up group. We would get together often to watch scary movies and go to horror movie festivals. The founder of the group is my friend Melly. Before I planned my trip back to North Carolina, Melly said that she wanted me to come to the horror group and spend the day with me. I was excited to see her and the group again.
