The Tale Of Two Witches

While researching my previous post about Krampus and Knecht Ruprecht, I was surprised to learn that there are a couple of Christmas or Yule witches in Europe. The two main witches I came across were as different as night and day. Reading their stories made me think of the line from Wizard of Oz "Are you a good witch or are you a bad witch?"

Feeling Like I’m Back In Japan

As much as I love Champaign, I have been a little homesick for Japan lately. I know I'm not the only one. Jeremy is missing the food and Katniss is missing the festivals. Thankfully the campus was having a great little festival at the Japan House on base. Jeremy and I decided to take Katniss to it.

One Last Adventure With Dacia

I have talked about my friend, Dacia, before in this blog. We met earlier this year and have gotten really close over this summer. She is a lot of fun and we have a lot of the same interests. Unfortunately a few weeks ago she found out that she is having to PCS much sooner than we expected. She was suppose to PCS back next summer like us. Instead she is leaving the beginning of December. I know I am going to miss her.

Date Night With Jeremy

A few weeks before all the Ball craziness, Jeremy and I had a fun date night in Hiroshima. There was a Ramen Festival near Peace Park. Jeremy and I had been wanted to go to this festival for years but it always fell on a day when he had duty. This year it worked out where we could go after he got off work on Friday.

Why Is Violence The Norm?

After living in Japan for over a year it has been a relief to not have my guard up when we go out. We can go out to a festival and not worry about something happening. Or go to the mall and not worry about gangs getting in to it. If we had kids, I wouldn't have to worry about them walking to school or being at school. I wish the United States could be more like this.

Taking A Peek At Old Japan: Yabesume Festival In Tsuwano

Back in April, Jeremy, Marcus, Charrleen and I went to the town of Tsuwano in Shimane Prefecture. We had heard about a festival that was going on there that we really wanted to check out. It was a Yabusame festival. Yabusame is a horseback archery tournament and the yabusame course in Tsuwano is the last remaining original one in Japan.
