We have been putting the house together. With Jeremy's help, we swapped to the two main rooms downstairs. What used to be the front room, is now the living room. What was the living room, is now the dining room. I am still setting up both rooms but the house is starting to look more like an actual home.
A couple of weeks ago our friend, Shawna, invited a bunch of us from the Bunco group to go to a plum blossom festival. It was about an hour south of base near Hikari. Shawna told us to bring Katniss because she was bringing her pup, Mochi. The festival was located on a large hill (small mountain) that had plum blossom trees on top of the flat hill and going down around the hill towards the coast. It was really beautiful. Even though there were some venders there, Jeremy and I brought sandwiches and snacks from 7-11 so we could have a picnic with the others in our group. It was a beautiful area and the kids were having fun playing and running around.
One of the festivals I wanted to check out while Mom was in town was the Azalea Festival in Hofu City. Back home in North Carolina, Wilmington has an Azalea Festival as well. I thought it would be cool to see how Japan does their azalea festival. I didn't know if it would a street festival like we had been before or more of a quieter affair like the wisteria tunnels.
Between learning how to make flower crowns at Ashley's workshop a few weeks ago, all the upcoming balls (Marine Corps ball, Navy ball, Mini Marine Corps Ball), Homecoming for the high school, and the upcoming holidays I wanted to find a local florist. Thankfully Saori from Explore Translations knew of a great florist shop near base. She took to the Flower Shop Bikouen and introduced me to the owner, Keiko Kagawa. Keiko has a great shop near Cazl mall.
One of the things you learn quickly living on a base is to avoid the commissary on Pay Day. Everyone shops like it is the last time the commissary will be open for a while. I typically am able to avoid the madness by putting off my shopping until later but today I needed to get some groceries since this was a three week long paycheck (I hate those). I was quickly upset by what I saw there.
Jeremy and I do Valentine's Day differently than most people. Instead of getting dressed up and going out on Valentine's Day, we stay in and spend the day together. We were both really looking forward to doing this because of how busy we both have been.
