During one of the posts last week, I briefly mentioned an interesting story involving St. Nicholas and The Pickled Boys. While that story was probably the least Christmasy thing you would associate with Saint Nicholas, it isn't the only unusual story behind the jolly old man. While doing research for these Christmas posts I ended up coming across a few more interesting stories that I thought you might like to hear.
While researching my previous post about Krampus and Knecht Ruprecht, I was surprised to learn that there are a couple of Christmas or Yule witches in Europe. The two main witches I came across were as different as night and day. Reading their stories made me think of the line from Wizard of Oz "Are you a good witch or are you a bad witch?"
Earlier this year, before Jeremy went off to recruiting duty, we thought that he would be sent to Germany for recruiting duty instead of central Illinois. It seemed to make sense that with us already OCONUS that the military would save money by sending us to another OCONUS location. Sadly, it was not meant to be. But before we found out for sure, you better believe I researched the heck out of Germany, its culture and its traditions.
As normal as my life may seem, it usually isn’t long before something paranormal pops up whether it is dealing with actual spirits or someone asking questions about ghost hunting. It really doesn’t take long for it to come up in conversation. Especially when people ask how Jeremy and I met. Not everyone can say that ghosts brought two people together or served as a relationship counselor. Those are stories for a later date though.
