MCAS Iwakuni Marine Corps Birthday Balls

Summer of last year (can't believe it's already 2018!)  I received an email from our FRO saying that the MCCS needed to hire a photographer for the Marine Corps Balls this past November. A few hours later Jeremy forwarded me the same email saying that I need to apply. So I did. I interviewed for it even though I seriously doubted I was what they were wanting. But surprisingly I was offered the gig.

A Juicy Jewel Hidden Near MCAS Iwakuni

Since I have been working hard to lose weight, Saori introduced me a great little shop near the back gate of base. It's a juice bar called Vegetrip. It's a really cute shop beside Mameka. Vegetrip offers a variety of healthy choices in the way of fresh pressed juices and smoothies. This is something that is unusual to find in Japan, especially in a small town like Iwakuni. It is refreshing to have an option like this and so close to base. The shop is really cute and has a small seating area so you can sit with friends while enjoying your juice. Saori went with me last week to grab a drink before lunch.

New Adventures In Same Hiroshima

One of the great things about being stationed at MCAS Iwakuni is that new people are always arriving. One of the new neighbors in our building is Domenik and her husband, Larry. Last week Domenik and I decided that we needed more Lush in our life. If you don't know what Lush is, I apologize. Please go to Lush and order a bath bomb ASAP. They are amazing.

A Blossoming Local Business

Between learning how to make flower crowns at Ashley's workshop a few weeks ago, all the upcoming balls (Marine Corps ball, Navy ball, Mini Marine Corps Ball), Homecoming for the high school, and the upcoming holidays I wanted to find a local florist. Thankfully Saori from Explore Translations knew of a great florist shop near base. She took to the Flower Shop Bikouen and introduced me to the owner, Keiko Kagawa. Keiko has a great shop near Cazl mall.

Delightfully Scary Fun Labor Day

Today has been an interesting day to say the least. I went to Hiroshima with some new friends Sam and Jaime (the couple I went to Costco with last week), and their friends Michael and Graham. We wanted to go try out the haunted house that we had been hearing about. It is only going on until September 8th. The Japanese haunted houses are associated more with Obon than Halloween. Today was our only chance to visit it before it closed. This haunted house was located by the Hiroshima Carps stadium.
