A Spirited Christmas

The Christmas festivities are starting to wind down. Mom headed back to North Carolina yesterday. She had been here for a week. I'm really happy she was able to come up for Christmas. I've missed spending the holidays with her.  The week leading up to Christmas has been a crazy, busy, fun week. The day after Mom drove up from North Carolina, we drove down to Springfield, Illinois to explore new areas with Avery and her kids. We first went to a great little restaurant called Anchors Away. We chose this restaurant because we heard that it was haunted. Thankfully our waiter, Brock, was able to confirm this quickly for us.

He Certainly Isn’t Your Hallmark Santa Claus…

During one of the posts last week, I briefly mentioned an interesting story involving St. Nicholas and The Pickled Boys. While that story was probably the least Christmasy thing you would associate with Saint Nicholas, it isn't the only unusual story behind the jolly old man. While doing research for these Christmas posts I ended up coming across a few more interesting stories that I thought you might like to hear.

The House Feels A Little Crowded Lately

Over the past couple of weeks, the activity at our house has been picking up. I don't know if it was because it was getting closer to Halloween, the spirits were feeding off my stress levels leading up to the Marine Corps Ball, or maybe the spirit(s) in the house are feeling more comfortable with us. Whatever it is, things have definitely been interesting.

Was It All Just A Dream?

I recently got into a deep conversation with a reader about dreams. Recently we both had been having odd dreams that we couldn't shake. The reader who reached out to me said that it was okay to share her dream but asked that I not reveal her identity.

Brown Mountian Lights

For those of y'all who aren't familiar with the Brown Mountian Lights, I will take this moment to explain what it is. Brown Mountian is located in western North Carolina near Boone. The lights have been observed since the 1200's. The lights are balls of lights that form on the side of the mountain and then rise above mountain where they flash in different colors before fading away. The Cherokee Indians in the area first reported the lights after a battle took place with another clan. The Cherokee theorized that it was the spouses of warriors looking for their loved ones after the battle. Later on, the legend would change to a young bride looking for her groom who died on their wedding day or a mother looking for her children lost in the woods.

My Life Is Crazy, Spooky, Fun.

Things around here are still crazy busy but as you know, that’s how I love it. If you have been following my social media, you already know that Rampu has been pretty active this weekend. I even managed to catch him turning on on video! Normally he is camera shy and won’t turn on or off until shortly after I lower my phone or camera. Friday morning Rampu woke me up by flashing on and off quite a bit around 5am. I’m happy he did because I got to watch a gorgeous sun rise. I have never seen lilac colored skies before. I think he was active because later Friday morning we had a few thunderstorms come through the area.
