The Good Girl: Book Review

I am still reading often. I didn’t give that up. I just finished a really good book that I couldn’t wait to share with y’all. It’s similar to Gone Girl or Girl On the Train and just as good as both of them. I found this in the Philadelphia Airport this summer when Jeremy and I were heading back to Japan (that trip is for another post).

“I’ve been following her for the past few days. I know where she buys her groceries, where she works. I don’t know the color of her eyes or what they look like when she”s scared. But I will.”

One night, Mia Dennett enters a bar to meet her on-again, off-again boyfriend. But when he doesn’t show, she unwisely leaves with an enigmatic stranger. At first Colin Thatcher seems like a safe one-night stand. But following Colin home will turn out to be the worst mistake of Mia’s life…

The story is how everyone deals with Mia’s disappearance before and after she is found. The book does jump around a lot. It’s told by three different perspectives: Eve (Mia’s mother), Colin, and Gabe (the detective on the case). It also jumps back and forth from before Mia is found and after she is found. Normally I don’t like with story lines jump back and forth like that but for this book, it doesn’t bother me. The story line is really good and when it does occasionally slow down, it isn’t boring. Also there are twists in it the story that are so out of left field (The Gone Girl style twists).

This book stuck home to me because it seemed like something that could really happen to someone like me. Mia does a lot of what I would do when she realizes what is going on (minus the whole going home with someone I had just met at the bar). It made me wonder if I was in her place would I survive the situation or would I be able to escape before things got out of hand. I was trying to pace this book out by only reading a chapter or two every night before bed but it was so hard to put this book down. I finished it before I had another book lined up to read. Oops. I hope y’all read it and enjoy it as much as I have. If you do read it let me know what you think of it.
